Federal judge upholds marriage in Hawaii

A federal judge has ruled that Hawaii's marriage laws are constitutional, thwarting an effort to impose "gay marriage" on the state through the courts. U.S. District Court Judge Alan C. Kay's July 8 ruling said that Hawaii's marriage laws are "rationally related to legitimate government interests." These interests include the need to encourage stability in relationships that produce children naturally and the need to promote the ideal of having children raised by both their mother and father.
