2nd attack on Catholic Church by Protestant – our response is here

You may like to follow or even to join this discussion with a Protestant who insults Our Lady and the Catholic Church.  His attack is posted first.  Our response follows below.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Dear Robert:

I am writing in response to your 11:41 am comment to my AGoodChoice blog post last Sunday, September 5, 2010.
What is this, “Holy Mother Church?” I have never heard of it before. Is this the whore spoken of in Revelation 17:5, 15, who is the mother of harlots. Jesus said, “I will build My Church.” I thought the Church belonged to Jesus Christ. How does it then become Holy Mother Church?

Paul writes that there is one mediator between God and man, the man, Christ Jesus. Mary is not a mediator. Jesus sits at the right hand of God. Scripture does not say that Mary sits with them.
We have a way to enter before God directly by the blood of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 10: 19). We are to enter boldly before God (Hebrews 4:16).

Asking a statue of Mary for something is not honoring to Mary. It is idolatry, plain and simple!

You and your friend need to repent of your sin and invite Jesus into your heart. What America Needs, my friend, is repentance, a turning from idols to Jesus, and Him alone!

Sincerely,
Sam

Dear Sam:

Many Protestants make the false assumption that we Catholics worship idols.

This is not true.

But no matter how many times we show them we do not worship idols, they persist in this same false belief.  They repeat the same error over and over again!

Go figure…

Also, Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only Mediator to God the Father.

But this does not mean that there are no secondary mediators between Our Lord and men.  Holy Scripture is full of examples of this secondary mediation, such as:

Matthew 5:44-45

But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.

Psalms 106:23
So he said he would destroy them —  had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him to keep his wrath from destroying them.

Joel 2:17
Let the priests, who minister before the LORD, weep between the temple porch and the altar. Let them say, "Spare your people, O LORD. Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'

Acts 12:5-12
Peter therefore was kept in prison. But prayer was made without ceasing by the church unto God for him.

Furthermore, Protestants themselves offer to pray for people, and, therefore, to act as secondary intercessors.  Then, they go on to say it is wrong for the Mother of God to intercede for us!

How contradictory!

Finally, there is no unity of belief amongst them.  Each one is his own pope.  They disagree with each other on fundamental points of doctrine, faith and morals.

Yet, each claims to be right, to be inspired by the “holy spirit”.

The Holy Spirit cannot inspire a thousand different and contradictory interpretations of the same Gospel passage.

As a result, this disunity of faith and thought amongst Protestants, as well their refusal to accept reality makes honest, serious discussion very difficult.

May the Blessed Virgin Mary, the sweetest Mother of God, the one who all generations shall call blessed, intercede for these lost sheep and bring them back to the one true fold of Our Lord Jesus Christ -- The One Holy Roman Catholic Church.

Sincerely,

Robert Ritchie

  1. When I heard that there was an argument with a Protestant, I thought, "here we go again...". Such arguments tend to be very similar and go no where.

One more "kick at the can" can't hurt though, especially if it is for the edification of others who are open to fact, logic and arguments.

    Thanks for posting this.
