The news about the priest in Brazil who is urging the faithful to adopt a toad has caused quite a stir.
It’s hard to imagine why the faithful ought to adopt a toad when there are many more important and spiritual things to address during this Lenten season.
Father Djacy, from the parish of Santa Cruz, in Brazil, has issued a clarification about his call to adopt a toad.
He said that his request was inspired by the annual campaign of the Brazilian bishops called “Fraternity and Life on the Planet,” which focuses on environmental issues.
Father Djacy mentioned that the toad adoption idea was not meant to be taken literally, but only symbolically.
In other words, the faithful are not being encouraged to actually take in a toad to their homes, feed it, etc., but to adopt a toad in spirit.
