On August 15, 1233, Our Lady appeared to seven noble Florentines and asked them to live in solitude and prayer. After a time in LaCamariza, they returned to Florence where a very unusual miracle occurred. Newborn infants although unable to speak called out " These are the Servants of Mary". And so the Order of the Servites was formed according to the rule of St. Augustine.
Essentially this Order proposes that its devotees are servants or slaves of Mary, a form of devotion that reached an apex with the writings of St. Louis de Montfort. What an honor to be a slave to the Queen of Heaven and Earth! As her servant, one also becomes her special child, giving all to her to dispose of as she wishes for the greater glory of God.
This attitude shatters the modern day idea that was formulated by Karl Marx to hate all superiority. Denial of hierarchy is the root of Atheism--no God exists that should reign over mankind. Therefore, to be a slave of Mary is totally opposite to Communism and its philosophy.
Let us ask the Seven Holy Founders of the Servites to re-enkindle true devotion to Our Lady in the hearts of the faithful along with a great love for hierarchy.
