A real-life pro-life American princess

by Johanna Dasteel

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 20, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – One of the pro-life movement’s most admired women has found herself in the midst of a fairy tale, marrying a real Prince, becoming “Her Royal Highness,” and beginning her very own “happily ever after”’ — and all this not in spite of her pro-life convictions, but because of them.

Katie Walker, former communications director for the American Life League, married His Imperial Royal Highness Archduke Imre de Habsbourg-Lorraine of Austria in our nation’s capital on September 8th and became Her Imperial and Royal Highness Archduchess Kathleen of Austria.

The union can be seen as literally a “match made in Heaven.” Prior to the wedding, Katie told LifeSiteNews.com that she met Archduke Imre at a Mass in honor of the Archduke’s great grandfather, Emperor Karl of Austria, two years ago. Katie was there, because she was inspired by the life of Blessed Emperor’s Karl’s wife, the Servant of God Empress Zita. Katie had in fact, asked Empress Zita for heavenly help in discovering God’s plan for her own life. Little did Katie suspect that she would be directed to the holy couple’s great-grandson in answer to her plea.

Katie, ever devoted to the protection of the pre-born, spent her college years leading her college’s pro-life group at Northern Kentucky University in addition to serving as vice president of Students for Life of Kentucky. She pursued a career in journalism, graduating in 2008 with a degree in journalism and political science.

However, feeling the call to defend God’s littlest ones in the womb, Katie joined American Life League as communications director. The beautiful blonde knew full-well that such a move would very likely end her chances of a career in mainstream journalism.

There she remained with ALL until the fall of 2011, when she began working for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia, again as communications director. The fire for justice still aflame in her heart, she continued her pro-life activism with frequent speeches to encourage, educate, and inspire other pro-lifers.

Judie Brown, president of the American Life League, told LifeSiteNews, “It couldn’t happen to a nicer young woman, and I wish her the best!”

Brown reminisced that Katie was “the most dedicated and articulate young person to cross the threshold of the American Life League office. We missed her the day that she left and will continue to for a very long time.”

Katie, newly dubbed “Her Imperial and Royal Highness Archduchess Kathleen of Austria,” was united to His Imperial Royal Highness Archduke Imre de Habsbourg-Lorraine of Austria in holy matrimony at St. Mary, Mother of God Roman Catholic Church.

During the ceremony, she wore a stunning lace veil, which ran the length of her train. The archduchess explained to LifeSiteNews that the veil was borrowed from her husband’s grandmother, the Archduchess Yolande, which was given to her family by Empress Eugenie de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III, Emperor of the French.

We did say fairy tale, didn’t we?
