Wit Kanka, a Catholic who worked for a Lutheran, had great devotion to Our Lady of Czestochowa.
He often visited Jasna Gora and always brought back with him some of the miraculous water from St. Barbara’s.
In 1627, a plague struck all the cattle in the village where he lived as well as those in the neighboring towns.
The people were at a great loss. Kanka, seeing this, placed his trust in Mary and sprinkled the cattle with water from Czestochowa.
His cattle remained unharmed. The following year, the plague returned.
Kanka asked his master for permission to go to Czestochowa to get a supply of miraculous water. Having explained the story to his master, Kanka not only received permission but was told to bring him some of the water.
Within a short while he returned and the master, even though a Lutheran, placed his trust in Mary and sprinkled his cattle with the water. he did not lose a single one. Impressed by the miracle, he became a Catholic.
