Treaty threatened Irish constitutional protection for unborn, given almost universal acceptance and promotion of abortion at EU level

DUBLIN, June 13, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Irish voters have voted "No", by 53.4 per cent to 46.6 per cent, to their country ratifying the European Union's Lisbon Treaty, the document that was to replace the European Constitution defeated by French and Dutch referenda in 2005. Ireland was the only one of the 27 EU member states obliged by law to hold a referendum on the Treaty.
