(TFP member, Mr. Fulkerson, talks about sublimity)
The weekend of April 17-20 was a busy one for TFP volunteers Norman Fulkerson, Michael Drake and Michael Whitcraft. That is because they spent it traveling over seven thousand miles to present TFP ideas to groups of supporters and friends in Sacramento and Los Angeles.
These two events consisted of daylong conferences with lectures and an hour-long audio-visual presentation on the life and work of TFP founder Professor Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira.
In addition to the film, each event included three lectures. The first one, given by Mr. Drake, was about guaranteeing the survival of Catholic traditions in a world diametrically opposed to them.
The ways to ensure that these customs endure include exploring the myriad possibilities that God opens to those willing to struggle for Him and marching ahead with the daring of a lion and the subtle wisdom of a fox.
Next, Mr. Fulkerson discussed the importance of that which is sublime for individuals and society as a whole. He defined sublime as: “having beauty proportional to God.” This beauty exists as much in the realm of human action as it does in aesthetics.
He then showed how the roaring twenties, the aftermath of World War II and, above all, Hollywood have created a world that disregards and even mocks that which is sublime.
Last, Mr. Whitcraft spoke of the reasons to expect the coming chastisement that Our Lady predicted at Fatima. He ended with a message of hope, showing that the only true defeat for Catholics during this tempestuous time is if they stop confiding in the maternal goodness of the Blessed Virgin.
In addition to California, another TFP regional conference was held for friends and supporters in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
The TFP especially thanks local coordinators whose actions made these conferences possible.
