January 1 -- Circumcision of Our Lord

Our Lord Jesus Christ subjected Himself to the Old Law of circumcision in an act of profound humility.  It was a law that He made and therefore He could dispense Himself.  And yet, He submitted to show His love for mankind.  He gave the sublime example so that He could show us the love He had for the laws He created for the good ordering of the universe.

What is the lesson we can learn from the Divine Master?

If we love the Law of God as He instructed then it follows that we should also love and follow all reasonable laws that are in accordance with Divine and Natural Law.

As a corollary, we would naturally hate, oppose and fight all laws to the contrary.  A good example of this is the heinous law allowing abortion.  Those who peacefully fight this sin are in fact following the law of God and showing their love of His just Law.

Therefore, we accomplish God's Will in two ways: first, by renouncing our will in obedience to God's Laws and second, by defending those Laws when something arises that is contrary to them.
