April 6 -- St. William of Eskilsoe
William was born into an illustrious Parisian family in the year 1105. When he was ordained as sub-deacon and installed as canon in the Church of St. Genevieve au-Mont, his exemplary conduct was censured by his worldly colleagues who fought to make him resign his canonry.
Since they were unsuccessful, they had him removed to a distant diocese where St. William would not be able to remind them of their evil lifestyles. Soon Pope Eugenius III heard of the irregular treatment of St. William and expelled them.
Elected as sub-prior of St. Victor's, St. William established in its community a perfect spirit of religion and regularity which formed many religious in the practice of virtue. For over thirty years, St. William had the pleasure of seeing many walk with fervor in his steps. He died on April 6, 1203.
Let us ask St. William to understand the importance of exemplary leadership and to pray that God bless us with Catholic leaders that are not afraid to speak the Truth in all situations.
