December 13, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Colombia’s prosecutorial wing says that it will continue to fight the adoption of two children by an American journalist following the revelation that he is homosexual.
Chandler Burr, an advocate for the “gay” lifestyle who claims that homosexuality is biologically determined, complains that the Colombian government withdrew his two adoptive children from custody because of “hate.”
“Why are they doing this? They are breaking the law. Why are they doing this? Because they hate gay people—hate is not too strong a word—more than they love the children in their care,” said Burr in a recent CNN interview.
But Colombian officials have a different version of the story. The General Procurator, the national government’s law enforcement wing, notes that Burr did not tell officials he was a homosexual until after the adoption had been approved, a fact that Burr does not deny.
Burr told CNN that he mentioned his homosexuality to a social worker with the Colombian Institute of Family Well-Being (ICBF), which handles adoptions, who then reported the situation to authorities. Custody was then withdrawn while the case was reviewed.
Although a court has temporarily returned custody of the children, aged 11 and 13, to Burr, the General Procurator says that it will continue to fight the adoption because during the process “information was omitted that is relevant for determining the appropriateness of the one requesting” the adoption.”
In addition, the Procurator’s office notes that little has been documented about Burr’s private life, and that the psychological analysis done on Burr “shows contradictions regarding the current status of his same-sex relationships.”
Although Burr implied in a recent interview in Colombia that he is not currently in a relationship with another man, he added that he is seeking such a relationship. He also admitted the high level of opposition to homosexual adoption in Colombia, a position that is held throughout Latin America generally.
“I’m sorry because I know that many Colombians don’t believe it, but the sexual orientation of the parent has no positive nor negative effect on the children,” claimed Burr in a recent interview, who also said that he was sorry he admitted his homosexuality to authorities.
Burr is famous for his claim that “science” has proven that homosexuality is an inborn trait, which he compares to left-handedness, a claim that is rejected generally among researchers who acknowledge that the origin of homosexual orientation has not been scientifically determined.
